A Workshop on Experience Competency Assessment for Registration with Engineers and Geoscientist BC
Sat Oct 26 2024 21:00:00 GMT+0000 (Coordinated Universal Time)
Are you in the process of registering as a P.Eng. or P.Geo. with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC) and need to learn more about the experience/competency assessment part of the registration? Please join the Iranian Engineers of BC Association (IEBCA) in an in-person, interactive workshop presented by Dr. Hamid Ghanbari, P.Eng. from EduBuild Solutions and Leila Lagroix and Ben Tester from EGBC. The workshop is in English and is open to the public. Registration is required for attending the event.
Engineering is a self-regulated profession in Canada, under provincial and territorial laws. In British Columbia (BC), this is the EGBC that has a legislated mandate (Provincial Governance Act, PGA) to define the requirements for admission, verify the qualification of professionals (as well as firms) against the requirements, and grant them a licence to practise in their specialized field(s) of engineering and geoscience. Academic and experience assessments are two major parts of the application review process for individuals, and the workshop focuses on the later.
In the first part of the workshop, the EGBC's registration staff will present an overview of the Competency Assessment system, which is a major part of the professional registration process. The topics include: what it is and how it works; key terminology; and how to populate each section of the framework. I will also cover the Canadian Environment Competencies and explain how that has changed from the one year in a Canadian environment requirement.
The second part of the workshop will focus more on the technicality of competency writing. Applying the knowledge gained through his mentoring of P.Eng./P.Geo./EIT/GIT applicants, the presenter will provide various tips on how to avoid pitfalls and, instead, to improve their competency write-ups using real competency writing examples. This interactive session will provide an opportunity for the audience to share their own write-ups with the group for review. Please feel free to bring samples of your competency write-ups to share and discuss with the group.
A Q/A session at the end of the presentation will provide an opportunity for the audience to receive answers to their questions from the presenters.
