An Introduction to Building Envelope Discipline

Sat Feb 18 2017 22:00:00 GMT+0000 (Coordinated Universal Time)

The Building Envelope separates the inside of a building from the outside. It consists of exterior walls, roofs, decks, windows, doors, balconies and below grade assemblies. This interactive presentation, built upon a wide range of interesting case studies, physical samples, and photographs, will provide an introduction to Building Envelope, and its impact on moisture management, energy efficiency, and durability of the building, as well as the thermal comfort of occupants. It goes over examples of Building Envelope failures in Canada, and the reasons behind them, as well as showcase examples of high performance, energy efficient, and sustainable Building Envelope assemblies incorporated in North America and Europe The The presentation will also discuss the overlaps between the Building Envelope discipline, and the Architectural, Structural, Mechanical, and Electrical disciplines, and will demonstrate the required coordination measures between these overlaps when it comes to successful performance of the building as a whole. At the end of the presentation, an overview of the industry programs and references on sustainability in the Building Envelope design and construction will be provided.
