IEBCA 2024 Annual General Meeting (AGM) and an EGBC Presentation on Professional Practice of Engineering and Geoscience in British Columbia for Individuals and Firms

Please join the Iranian Engineers of BC Association (IEBCA) in an in-person event that includes IEBCA’s 2024 Annual General Meeting (AGM) and a presentation by Ramin Seifi, P.Eng., FEC, Director, Professional Practice, Standards and Development at Engineers and Geoscientists BC(EGBC) on “Professional Practice of Engineering and Geoscience in British Columbia for Individual Registrants and Firms”. The program is in English, and it is open to the public, free of charge. Registration is required.
EGBC does not accredit Continuing Education (CE) offerings, but EGBC registrants may be eligible for CE Hours for attending this event. Information about EGBC’s CE Program requirements can be found here: https://www.egbc.ca/registrants/continuing-education/continuing-education-program.
Session 1 – IEBCA’s 2024 Annual General Meeting (AGM)

In the first part of the program, the IEBCA’s 2024 AGM will be presented by Nima Moazen, P.Eng., the President of IEBCA. The agenda includes:
1. Welcome and Introduction
2. Overview of Meeting Rules and Protocols
3. Motion to approve the Minutes of the 2023AGM (to be emailed to members separately)
4. 2023-2024 Annual Report by the President of IEBCA
5. Introduction of a Slate of Candidates for 2024-2025 Board of Directors of IEBCA (please see Call for Nominations below)
6. Election of 2024-2025 Board of Directors of IEBCA
7. Closing Remarks
8. Adjournment
Eligibility to Vote: Per Section II.15.(a) of IEBCA Bylaws, only Full Members who are a “member in good standing” (i.e., paid their membership fee) for “at least three (3) months prior to the date of the general meeting” can vote at the AGM.
Session 2 – A Presentation on “Professional Practice of Engineering and Geoscience in British Columbia for Individual Registrants and Firms”

In the second part of the program, Ramin Seifi, P.Eng., FEC, Director, Professional Practice, Standards and Development at Engineers and Geoscientists BC will present on the regulations affecting the practice of engineering and geoscience for both individual registrants and firms, with particular emphasis on key components, such as: continued education, annual reporting, compliance auditing, practice reviews, duty to report and independent review requirements. A Q/A session at the end of the presentation will provide an opportunity for the audience to receive answers to their questions from the presenter.

Qualifications:
As a Board nominee, one has to be a Full member of IEBCA in good-standing (paid annual membership fee) for at least 6 month prior to the AGM (Nov 23, 2024).
Expectations:
1. As a Board member, you will spend about 10 hours per month attending Board meetings and performing other related task and activities.
2. This is volunteering position, and does not involve remuneration, except for the expenses incurred for IEBCA activities.

About the Speaker:
Nima Moazen, P.Eng.
President
Iranian Engineers of BC Association
Nima Moazen, P.Eng. is a hardware engineer at Fortinet Technologies, a network security company. He holds a master's degree in electrical engineering from the University of British Columbia (UBC). In addition to his technical career, he has been contributing significantly to the engineering community in British Columbia through his leadership role in a volunteering capacity with Engineers and Geoscientists BC, particularly as the Chair of the Richmond/Delta Branch, where he has organized numerous professional and community events. He has also been contributing to IEBCA activities at the Board of Directors of IEBCA as the Chair of the Board and President of the Association.

Ramin Seifi, P.Eng., FEC is the Director of Professional Practice, Standards and Development with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC). Ramin leads a team of 30 staff with overall responsibility for the development, administration and management of professional practice and compliance programs, including those related to continued education, annual reporting, compliance auditing and practice reviews, for the approximately 44,000 individual registrants and firms operating in British Columbia. Developing guidelines, establishing standards, working in close collaboration with government agencies and other regulatory organizations, including those responsible for the practice of architects, applied science technologists, biologists and foresters, form key areas of responsibility.
Ramin completed his academic education in the United Kingdom with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. He began his career in Canada in 1990 working initially in the consulting industry, responsible for design, administration and construction of land development, municipal infrastructure and public-private partnership projects. He then spent over 23 years as the General Manager of Engineering with one of the fastest growing municipalities in the Lower Mainland. In addition to his Professional Engineering designation, Ramin is also a registered member of the Canadian Institute of Planners and the Real Estate Institute of British Columbia.
