Pathway to Registration as a Professional Engineer/Geoscientist in British Columbia
Sat May 28 2022 21:00:00 GMT+0000 (Coordinated Universal Time)
Please join the Iranian Engineers of BC Association (IEBCA) in an informative in-person presentation by Dr. Hamid Ghanbari, P.Eng. from EduBuild Solutions. The presentation is in English and members of Engineers and Geoscientists BC may claim 1.5 Continuing Education (CE) Hours for attending the event.
Engineering is a self-regulated profession in Canada, and it is regulated under provincial and territorial law by the engineering regulators, with the foremost purpose of ensuring public safety. In British Columbia (BC), this is the Engineers and Geoscientists BC that has a legislated mandate (Professional Governance Act, PGA) to define the requirements for admission, verify the qualification of engineering professionals (as well as firms) against the requirements, and grant them a licence to practise in their specialized field(s) of engineering.
This presentation provides an overview of the application process for registering as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.) with Engineers and Geoscientists BC. The registration requirements are reviewed, and tips are provided for fulfilling the requirements. A special emphasis is placed on the Competency Experience Reporting System, where applicants present their engineering experience as one of the major requirements. Applying the knowledge gained through his mentoring of P.Eng./P.Geo./EIT/GIT applicants in the past few years, the presenter will provide various tips on how to avoid pitfalls and to improve registration applications. A Q/A session at the end of the presentation will provide an opportunity for the audience to receive answers to their questions from the presenter.
This presentation is relevant for engineering students and engineering graduates (both locally and internationally trained), Member-in-Training (EIT/GIT) as well as supervisors and mentors to learn about the professional registration process.
