The Role of Professional Engineers in Safe Design and Operation of Regulated Items

Please join the Iranian Engineers of BC Association (IEBCA) in an informative webinar presentation by Mr. Tom Ng, P.Eng. and Mr. Hamid Azarnoush, P.Eng from Technical Safety BC, the regulating organization overseeing the safety of regulated products in the province of BC. This virtual event (through Zoom Meeting) is in English and free of charge, and it is open to the public. EGBC members may claim 1 Continuing Education (CE) Hour for attending the event.

The presentation is aimed to elaborate on the role of professional engineers on safe design, fabrication, installation, and operation of regulated items in BC. Under Safety Authority Act, Technical Safety BC carries on activities that foster safety in the design, manufacture, disposal, construction, installation, operation, maintenance and use of technical products, equipment, systems and railways. A Q/A session at the end of the presentation will provide an opportunity for the audience to receive answers to their questions from the presenter.


Notes:
1) The event will be in English, and EGBC members may claim 1 Continuing Education (CE) Hours for attending the event.
2) On the day of the event, the admission to the presentation room starts at 5:15 PM, and the program starts at 5:30 PM sharp. During this time (5:15 -5:30), the audience will have a chance to network with each other in the room through the Chat Box.

Tom Ng, P.Eng.

Tom Ng, P.Eng. leads the Engineering team at Technical Safety BC. The team is responsible for the engineering practice of regulated technical systems, including refrigeration systems and plants. As a Professional Engineer of BC and Alberta for 16 years, his foundation in pressure piping, boilers, and pressure equipment helped diagnose, repair, and alter facility plants and systems. Tom was also part of the investigation team that discovered lapses in design practices at two ammonia refrigeration incidents in BC. Tom holds a degree in metallurgical engineering from UBC.


Hamid Azarnoush, P.Eng.

Hamid Azarnoush, P.Eng. works as a Senior Engineer at Technical Safety BC. With over 13 years of experience as a design engineer in the refrigeration field, Hamid has been a part of many recreational, industrial, and mining projects across North America, including Whistler Sliding Centre for Vancouver Winter Olympics 2010. Hamid holds a mechanical engineering degree from UBC and is a registered Professional Engineer with Engineers and Geoscientists BC.
